USB is a public university founded in 1969 in Caracas, with two campus in Sartenejas (Caracas) and Camuri, 12.597 students in: 15 undergraduate programs (5 years): engineering, basics science, architecture, urban planning; 10 technical programs (3 years); 58 programs at master level (2 years) and 14 doctoral (3-4 years) programs: food process, engineering, political science, sciences, urban transportation, geophysics, social science. The students are compelled two interships in company or research projects in their last three years. More than 70% of the students finish their studies.
Since 1996 USB International Exchange Student Program is offered for the students in their last year with the recognition of their studies. For the academic year 2009-2010, 133 USB students will be registered in 34 universities of 17 countries (Finland, Sweden, Norway, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, England, Belgium, Japan, USA, Brazil, Colombia, Chile, Mexico, Argentina) and 20 students from France, Sweden, Finland and Germany will be received at USB.
The academic year runs from September to July, divided into three periods of twelve weeks (September-December; January-March, April-July).
At USB the 825 professors and researchers, are involved in 267 research and consultant projects. The USB 55 research groups are partners of international universities and research institutes, for projects, programs: Cyted, ALFA, Ecos-Nord, PCP, AECI, OEI, Framework EU, and as members of several nets as: ISTEC, Columbus, Magalhaes, CINDA and OUI.
The USB community participates in social programs along the Venezuela territory on projects that contributes to improved the quality of life of the citizens. The campus with an outstanding tropical gardens is the scene for: concerts, exhibitions, summer camps, students organizations activities and cultural and recreational events.
The Direction for International Relations (DRI), is responsible of the admission and reception of international students, as well as the fallow up of the agreements signed and the participation of USB at international programs.
