The National University of Chimborazo is located in Riobamba, in the province of Chimborazo, is an institution with an influence in the poorest social sectors of the center of Ecuador, because this is an indigenous zone which presents the biggest socio-economical problems of the country.
Nowadays the university has 7000 students, distributed in 4 schools and 24 departments.
There are 400 professors in the university, the 90% has a degree of 4th.level (Master’s degree, qualified diploma and specialists in different areas). Many professors have got a PHD degree, and many others have taken higher education.
The University has four Schools and 24 departments; nowadays they are distributed in the following way: School of Education; Human Sciences and Technologies; Engineering; Health Sciences; Political and Managerial Sciences; and the Department of Academical Extension.
The Post degree Institute manages programs of 4th. Level, they are half presence modality: Master’s degree in Mathematical Education; Physics; Intelligence Development and Education; University Education and Research Education.
The department of linking the University to the community, is in charge of planning, coordinating and developing the activities to benefit the community, since all the students of the university must carry out a project to help the community which ought to be related to their carrier. In the present academical year 2008-2009, 120 projects have been developed in the area of linking the university to the community.
The National University of Chimborazo has 10 big buildings of 3 and 4 floors, for the offices, classrooms laboratories, they are located in 2 university campus. The classrooms have the installation of computer systems and projectors.
The University has 4 libraries, with about 20,000 twenty thousand books; furthermore it has the agreement of Virtual Libraries and Internet for students and professors.
