The Technical University of Manabí was officially formalized on the 29th of October, 1952 through a decree of Dr. José María Velasco Ibarra, the then President of the Republic of Ecuador and the acting Minister of Education Dr. Jose Martinez Cobos. Due to the necessities of the province, the Technical University of Manabí contains ten colleges, thirty-three majors, a Graduate Center of study and has extension centers in the cities of Bahía de Caraquez, El Carmen, Chone and Flavio Alfaro. The main campus is in Portoviejo which is the capital of the province of Manabí. Approximately 17,000 students are in attendance and roughly 1,000 professors employed.
As an institution of higher education, the Technical University of Manabí places great emphasis on superior development of the society and the individual, and has become an educational institution highly qualified in the arenas of research and teaching that drives for excellence and diversity. In all its pursuits, the Technical University of Manabí strives for an advancement of development regionally, nationally and globally.
Mission statements are to educate students at all levels to become professionals who are highly qualified leaders, analytically critical, and able to adapt and overcome the challenges they may face and to respond to the social demand of Manabí for excellence and provide innovative undergraduate and graduate education that contributes to the development of society and the individual.
The Technical University of Manabí actively facilitates learning through the preservation, discovery, synthesis, and dissemination of knowledge.
The Technical University of Manabí consists of the following ten colleges:
College of Administration and Economics, Agricultural engineering, Agronomical engineering, Computer science, Health science, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, Philosophy and Educational science, Social and Humanistic science, Veterinarian science and Zoological science.
